Wool on linen foundation, 19th century, England or Scotland; the first worked in cross stitch, four sided stitch, and buttonhole stitch, with alphanumeric rows with decorative dividers above and the lower half with a small house and other scattered figural and floral motifs, signed "Ann Smith Ford School / Aged 13 July 2 the year / of our Lord 1855" and with various initials throughout, framed under glass in dark wood frame; the second with upper register of alphabet and numerals in various stitches divided by decorative bands, with family initials, lower half with central flowering tree flanked by houses and fruit baskets, signed to bottom "Mary Hislop Gill.../ aged 11 B School 1847," in narrow black frame.

The first 14 1/2 x 19 in. framed dimensions, 11 1/2 x 16 in. sight.
The second 11 1/2 x 16 1/2 in. framed dimensions, 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 sight.
