Wool and silk on linen, 19th century; the first depicts the Biblical scene of Adam & Eve offering a sacrifice on an alter after leaving the Garden of Eden, worked in cross stitch with the human features worked with a finer thread in petit-point, with silk accents to the clothing, fabric lining to verso and all stretched with nails over a wood strainer and framed under glass; the second a Nativity scene depicting Mary, Joseph, and the Christ child in the manger with angels playing musical instruments alongside as a cow watches, a rural starlit scene in the background, worked in fine cross stitch, nailed to wooden strainer and framed under glass in antique frame.
The first 16 1/2 x 21 in. frame dimensions, 13 3/4 x 16 in. sight.
The second: 22 5/8 x 26 1/2 x 2 in. frame dimensions, 14 1/2 x 18 1/2 in. sight.

Stone, Middlesex, North Carolina The first with scattered small areas of loss, brittleness and discoloration to ground fabric, frame with nicks and scuffs and lacking dust jacket; the second with very minor stitch loss, brittleness and discoloration to ground fabric, but otherwise good bright colors, in ill-fitting frame with old newspaper serving as shim.
