Late 19th-early 20th century, the first two printed on paper depicting a pair of chalk renderings, the verso with notes indicating sitters are Colonel Ephraim Kirby (1757-1804) and his wife Ruth Marvin (1763-1817), the paper verso of Ephraim's portrait with stamp of Alman & Co. (active early 20th century), both images behind glass in antique gilt and wood frames (6 x 4 1/4 in.); the second pair of portraits, also framed prints (6-1/4 x 4-3/4 in.), show General E. Kirby Smith (grandson of Ephraim Kirby) and his wife, Cassie Selden of Virginia. Kirby Smith is best known as commander of the Confederate Trans-Mississippi Department, which extended from the Mississippi River to Arizona.
Drawings in good condition; some surface wear to frames, including tears to frame backing; Ephriam's frame lacking hanger; Ruth's hanger with repairs.
