Working primarily in oil, Johnson builds on realistic depictions of nature to explore more intuitive and emotional themes. Her work has been exhibited at venues including David Lusk Gallery in Memphis, Harris Gallery in Houston, and Soren Christensen in New Orleans, and is held in numerous public and corporate collections, including the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Louisiana Art & Science Museum.
