Both featuring a central bull design made with slips or underglazes and incised lines, including a large charger with wrapped wire for hanging (16 1/2 in.), and a bowl (10 1/4 in.); both signed to underside, the charger additionally stamped.
Collection of a Lady, Keswick, Virginia Avery’s work has been exhibited nationally in several solo and group gallery exhibitions, such as the “Strictly Functional National” in Lancaster, PA and NC State Craft Center’s “From These Hands” in Raleigh, NC. His work can be seen in publications such as
Ceramics Monthly,
500 Bowls: Contemporary Explorations of a Timeless Design (2003), and
Ceramics for Beginners: Surfaces, Glazes & Firing (2010). Along with private and corporate collections, his work is included in the permanent collection of the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC.
Both with felt pads to underside, very light rubbing and scratching to well, and slight warping (as made); good estate condition.
