Dated Showa 7 (1932), ink and colors on paper, woodblock print, signed Hasui with a red artist seal Kawase to lower left corner of print, title and date to the right margin, presented under glass professionally frame with mat in a black wood frame with rounded corners.


Frame dimensions 20 3/4 x 16 3/4 in., Sight size 14 3/4 x 10 in.

Purchased in Japan during the late 1940s.

Hasui Kawase was one of the leaders of the Shin Hanga movement in Japan. He focused on making prints that illustrated the beauty of Japan's natural landscapes with special emphasis on seasonal color and light effects of sunrise, sunset, rain and snow. He received the high honor of being named "A Living National Treasure" in 1956 for his contributions to the arts.

Good condition; some small stains to lower margin; some even toning to paper; light fading to colors; not examined outside of the frame.
