Massachusetts Classical Mahogany Sideboard

Attributed to the Boston cabinet shop of Benjamin Bass Jr. (1775–1819), circa 1815, mahogany veneer, white pine and deal secondary, upper recessed case with two small drawers flanking a concave panel, acanthus carved stiles, the top with several porringer conforming edges, three central small drawers over one long drawer flanked by two upper drawers over two hinged paneled cabinet doors all with cock beading, shelved interior, central arched returns, three quarter reeded stiles surmounted by repeating acanthus carving, tapered reeded legs with turned feet, paneled case sides.

47 x 70 x 25 in.

Note the acanthus carved stiles feature a distinct embossed star field; and the central long drawer features a divided interior.

Top surfaces with some dark staining and shrinkage cracks; old but later pulls; lower right door not staying closed; later hinges; small indents at upper center of skirt arch.
