Meiji period (1868-1912), silk embroidered with polychrome and couched metallic silk threads, the pair finely embroidered using an array of stitch techniques, two circular roundels overlapping, one with a pair of phoenix and the other a pair of winged dragons, one with a cord from the center and the second with tassels, densely and lavishly embroidered exhibiting a high level of Meiji period craft technique, presented framed under glass.
Frame dimensions 23 1/8 x 27 1/8 x 1 in., Sight size 13 3/4 x 17 3/4 in.
From the Collection of Elizabeth Boleman-Herring, Pendleton, South Carolina Very good condition; some light pulls to thread in center where medallions meet and to one spot on roundel rim; not examined outside of the frame.
