19th century, English and Continental, including four round black lacquered mache forms, including two with erotic courting scenes to the interior, the larger hand-painted to exterior and interior with dual removable lids (3 5/8 in. diameter), the second a transfer-printed to exterior and interior with French phrase "VOUS EN RATISSE" ("He rakes it in") (3 3/8 in.); a third with hand-painted lid signed "S. Adalbert" to the left edge, depicting a Benedictine monk in conversation with another figure (3 3/4 in.); the fourth lacquered box with portrait of a gentleman in profile (3 5/8 in.). Also included is a fifth in thuya wood veneers, mahogany paneled interior, hand-painted with Continental dining scene (1 x 3 1/2 x 4 in.).
