Oil on canvasboard, signed "John Cole" at lower right, retaining "The Veerhoff Galleries" of Washington, D.C. label to verso, presented in an attractive period painted and gilt wood frame.

Frame dimensions 15 3/4 x 19 3/4 in.

John Cole was a London-born oil painter and stained-glass artist, the son of artist Rex Vicat Cole. Best known for his unsentimental depictions of traditional London shopfronts, he exhibited widely at the Royal Academy, NEAC, RBA, and the Paris Salon, where he won a silver medal in 1952 and a gold medal in 1954.
