Olin Lansing Russum was born in Maine, and educated in California, earning both his BA and MFA degrees. He eventually settled in Maryland where he established his studio in a restored barn and taught classes at the Baltimore Museum of Art. He is best known for making altered thrown pottery forms and wall murals.
