Crazy quilt casket covers were a tradition among some communities in the Southeastern United States, typically made from clothing scraps, and passed down among family members. While crazy quilts were also made during this time to adorn household furnishings from piano tops to sofa backs, the more restrained design and materials used in this piece, as well as its shape and size, point less to it's use as a showpiece and more to something personal.

Areas of staining; holes and shattering.
