From the Collection of late Cowles Liipfert, Winston Salem, North Carolina Tomás Ditaranto was an Italian-born Argentine painter, illustrator, and educator renowned for his depictions of Argentine landscapes, gaucho life, and rural traditions. After immigrating to Argentina as a child, he studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and exhibited widely throughout his career. He is best known for his celebrated illustrations of José Hernández's Martín Fierro, one of Argentina's most important literary works. His paintings and illustrations are represented in numerous public and private collections throughout Argentina and internationally.
