Soshana Afroyim was an Austrian Modernist painter whose vibrant, expressive work reflects a lifetime of travel, cultural exchange, and resilience. Born Susanne Schüller in Vienna, she fled Nazi persecution with her family in 1938, eventually settling in New York before returning to Europe after World War II. She studied at the University of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and developed a distinctive style that evolved from expressive realism to lyrical abstraction, influenced by the École de Paris, Abstract Expressionism, and Asian calligraphy. An avid traveler, Afroyim drew inspiration from her journeys throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, incorporating motifs and techniques from diverse artistic traditions into her work. Her paintings have been exhibited internationally and are represented in museum and private collections worldwide.
