Jackson Hammack is a self-taught contemporary painter whose work explores the emotional and spiritual connections between humanity and the natural world. Painting since early childhood, Hammack has developed an intuitive, highly textured approach, layering paint with both traditional and unconventional tools to create expressive surfaces rich in color and movement. His early abstracted portraits gave way to landscapes and wildlife inspired by years of hiking and a deep appreciation for nature.
After relocating to the mountains of western North Carolina, Hammack found renewed inspiration in the region's forests and native wildlife. Bears, deer, elk, woodpeckers, and other animals have become recurring subjects, rendered not as literal representations but as personal interpretations that emphasize their vitality and spirit. Through bold color, expressive texture, and a particular focus on the eyes of his subjects, Hammack invites viewers to reconnect with both the natural world and their own inner experience.
