Carson Sutherlin Davenport was a Virginia painter, muralist, and educator known for his landscapes, seascapes, and watercolor scenes of the American South. A participant in several New Deal art programs, he created murals for U.S. Post Offices in Virginia and Georgia and exhibited at the 1939 New York World's Fair. He later served for more than two decades as chair of the Art Department at Averett College in Danville, Virginia, while continuing to paint the landscapes and wild ponies of Chincoteague Island.

Good estate condition, slight bowing to the board on one side.
