Folio; 132pp. With numerous illustrations including many color lithographs, with four based on the Four Seasons by Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, Rattner, and Paul Klee; a large portion of this number devoted to the art of India, Persia, etc. (Light wear to wraps, spine toned, interior with occasional light grime and a few areas of gutter cracking with a few leaves slightly loose as a result.)
VERVE: THE FRENCH REVIEW OF ART, Vol. 2, No. 8 (September-November 1940). Paris: Verve, 1940. In illustrated paper-wrapped boards with cover composed by Matisse. Folio; 73, [5]pp. As stated in the tipped-in note on the title page: "This issue of VERVE was completed just a few days before the occupation of Paris. Extraordinary difficulties and extremely high expenses were incurred in order to bring copies to America..." With numerous illustrations reproducing the work of Matisse, Derain, Picasso, Rouault and others, and a double-page color lithograph by Pierre Bonnard. (Wear to edges and spine, and light scuffing, with overall fairly heavy wear to the paper wraps; interior with one missing leaf at the beginning(?), pages with occasional minor toning and light handling wear, gutter cracking, the title page with minor residue, and a couple of leaves slightly loose.)
