George Boys (South African, 1930-2014), Still Life with Flowers

George Boys was a leading South African abstract painter whose work was influenced by European modernism, particularly the paintings of Wassily Kandinsky and the expressive brushwork of Japanese calligraphy. He studied at the Witwatersrand Technical College in Johannesburg and initially worked as an educator before pursuing painting full-time. Boys exhibited widely throughout South Africa and internationally, representing his country at the 1965 São Paulo Biennale and the 1976 Athens Art Festival.
