Rebound in full gilt-ruled and decorated red leather, spine with raised bands, gilt lettering, and gilt-decorated compartments, with marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, and ribbon bookmark. 4to; with red and black printed title pages, elaborate initials, in-text illustrations, and complete with (94) plates, many in color, illustrating costumes, stained glass, ornamental items, and much more, and including an additional title page in color in volume I.

Each 10 7/8 x 7 1/2 in.

Sturdy boards with areas of mild discoloration and minor scuffing, spines slightly darkened, rubbing to extremities; book plate to paste-downs; vol. I with light cracking at hinges, early-20th-century inscription on free endpaper, and a closed tear to one plate; margins cut slightly short sometimes impacting plate captions, and leaves with spotting throughout (occasionally heavy), toning (mostly to plates), and a rare mark or spot of grime.
