Arthur King was a self-taught American jeweler known for organic, freeform designs using lost-wax casting in silver and gold. After World War II naval service, he opened his first shop in 1950s Greenwich Village and eventually operated up to 18 stores, including Madison Avenue in New York. Favoring baroque pearls and unusual colored gemstones in vine- and bark‑like settings, he became a leading modernist designer of the 1960s-70s with celebrity clients such as Lena Horne, Elizabeth Taylor, and Vidal Sassoon, and his work was exhibited at major museums in New York, London, Japan, and Stockholm.
