Lonnie and Twyla Money were both born in Laurel County, Kentucky. Lonnie is descended from Jacob Money, a 19th-Century Swiss immigrant who had been a wood carver in the old country. Lonnie does the carving part of each sculpture.
Twyla Darty, whose family has farmed in the county for generations, grew up a mile from the house and hilly farm where she and Lonnie live now on Money Road. Twyla adds the painted decoration to each of Lonnie's carvings.
