Silk on very fine linen or wool ground, English, worked in cross stitch, eyelet, and satin stitch, the upper registers with narrow rows of multicolored text starting with an alphabet, then a pious verse, interspersed with crown and diamond motifs and the family names "William Slade" and "Anna Slade," the lower register with rampant red lions, a large scale floral band, small scale trailing floral bands, and signed "sarah slade was born / April the fourteenth in the year 1746 / and finished this work in the twelfth year of her age," with border of trailing bud and leaf motifs. Mounted to board and framed under Plexiglass in a cherry frame.
12 1/2 x 17 1/2 in. textile size. 18 x 23 in. frame dimensions.
