Philip Moose (American, 1921-2001), Mountain Landscape

Born in Newton, North Carolina, Philip Moose developed an interest in art at an early age and, in 1940, moved to New York City to study at the National Academy of Design. Following his service in the U.S. Army during World War II, he returned to North Carolina and taught at Davidson College and Queens College during the 1950s and 1960s. He later settled in Blowing Rock, where he devoted himself to painting and travel.

Moose exhibited widely throughout his career, earning recognition for his distinctive interpretations of the landscapes and communities of North Carolina and beyond. His work is represented in numerous public collections, including the Mint Museum, Charlotte; North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh; Hickory Museum of Art; and High Museum of Art, Atlanta.
