Matt Jones (Leister, NC, b. 1971), Large Floral Decorated Floor Jar

Salt glazed stoneware, incised signature "MATT / JONES" near the base, semi-ovoid jardiniere featuring a frieze decorated in hand-painted ash glazed slip trailed fronds over a white glazed field, between tooled circumferential relief bands, the base with four drainage holes.

Jones Pottery is owned and operated by Matt and Christine Jones in the beautiful Big Sandy Mush valley of Leicester, North Carolina (just west of Asheville in Buncombe county). Edgefield pottery traditions as well as North Carolina pottery and historic Moravian ceramics are influences on Matt's oeuvre. His pottery has been featured in Ceramics Monthly magazine.
