René Seyssaud was a Provençal painter who studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille and later in Avignon. Known for his bold palette and expressive use of color, he anticipated aspects of Fauvism while drawing inspiration from the landscapes and coastlines of Provence. Seyssaud exhibited widely in France and was awarded the Grand Prize at the exhibition of the Masters of Independent Art in Paris in 1951.
