Attributed Floyd Hilton and C.B. Masten for Auman and Hybla Pottery, Handled Stoneware Pot

Seagrove, North Carolina, circa 1930, salt glazed stoneware, wheel thrown by Floyd Hilton and cobalt decorated by C.B. Masten, footed ovoid pot with arched handle and crimped rim, the underside with partial stamp "HAND / MADE / POTTERY" within an oval.

9 x 6 x 5 1/2 in.

This piece was likely made at C.R. Auman Pottery using local Seagrove clays and then transported to Hybla Valley in Fairfax, Virginia for sale. Turned by Floyd Hilton and with distinctive cobalt decoration by C.B. Masten, the complete mark would have read "HYBLA VALLEY / HAND / MADE / POTTERY."

Good estate condition; firing hairlines where handle meets rim in the making.
