From the Collection of Ron W. Djuren, Durham, North Carolina Originally from Connecticut, Shana Greger earned a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, with an exchange at Parsons in New York. Her career as a professional artist began in freelance illustration across publishing, editorial, and design markets, including museum exhibition graphics, courtroom drawing, and archaeological illustration. This diverse experience led to teaching opportunities at the college level and in workshops. By 1990, Shana shifted her focus to children's trade and textbook illustration, incorporating her own writing with an emphasis on multicultural and creation story themes. During this time, she also moved to New Mexico, where the landscape and spiritual essence deepened her understanding of artistic practice.
In 1995, Shana relocated to western North Carolina, drawn to its restorative landscapes. Since 2001, she has exhibited her
Waterfall paintings through Asheville’s Blue Spiral 1/New Morning Gallery, while also completing public art commissions, such as large-scale murals for the Greensboro Public Library. More recently, she has shifted away from the
Waterfall series with
Picnic Tables and Birds serving as a bridge to a deeper exploration of the
Tree of Life, the mystical system of Judaism with its 10 Gateways and 22 paths.
