Lee N. Smith III (b. 1950) is an American artist known for his surreal depictions of childhood experiences set against suburban Texas landscapes. His paintings utilize vivid colors and dynamic compositions to evoke nostalgia and a dream-like atmosphere. Born in New Orleans and raised in Dallas, Smith began painting in 1974 and held his first solo exhibition at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1979. In 1984, he was among fewer than thirty artists selected to represent the United States at the Venice Biennale.
His work has been exhibited in major institutions including the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Dallas Contemporary. In 2023, the Tyler Museum of Art held a solo exhibition titled
