Anagama wood-fired stoneware, three featuring natural ash glaze including two of similar form appear wheel turned (5 1/2 in. diameter) and the tallest likely handbuilt (4 1/2 in.); a fourth example with gray oni hage style glaze (4 in.), and the fifth with gray and white striped glaze. (4 in.). All unsigned.
Sold to benefit the Yale University Art Gallery collection Master ceramicist and sculptor, Peter Callas, is based in New Jersey. His work can be found in numerous prestigious public and private collections worldwide including the Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, Massachusetts; Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, Lyon France; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York; and V&A Museum, London, England, among many others. Callas's expressionist wood fired clay sculptures, vessels, and pottery forms are inspired by nature:
