Claude Venard was a French post-Cubist painter known for his bold use of color, dynamic compositions, and heavily textured surfaces. Born in Paris, Venard studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and began his career exhibiting with the group Forces Nouvelles, which emphasized a return to order and structure in the visual arts following World War I. Over time, he developed a distinctive style marked by geometric forms, thick impasto, and vibrant, often clashing colors that conveyed a sense of vitality and modernity.

Venard exhibited widely over the course of his lifetime, including the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d’Automne in Paris, Galerie Romanet in Paris, the Redfern Gallery in London and the Wildenstein Gallery in New York. His paintings have been in the collections of the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Tate Gallery in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
