Historic Firearms: Five Exceptional Reproductions
"In the 1970s and 80s, there was an organization called the United States Historical Society, through which you could acquire working reproductions of historical firearms." - Bill Graham, Fine Sporting Arms Specialist
Spend a moment with Fine Sporting Arms Specialist, Bill Graham, as he presents five highlights from our upcoming Fine Sporting Arms Auction. This curated selection features working reproductions produced by the United States Historical Society, each representing an important chapter in American history. Among the featured pieces are the famed dueling pistols of Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, enduring symbols of one of the nation’s most consequential rivalries and later immortalized in the acclaimed Broadway production Hamilton. Also included are traveling pistols associated with Thomas Jefferson, whose original pistols remain preserved at Monticello, as well as a finely crafted pair of Derringer percussion cap pistols made in Philadelphia. Graham then takes a moment to observe a striking 1851 Navy revolver honoring Robert E. Lee, which is embellished in 24-karat gold, and concludes with the legendary Pitcairn pistol, famed for firing the “shot heard ’round the world”. Together, these extraordinary pieces reflect both the artistry of historic firearm craftsmanship and the enduring stories that shaped the nation, making them exceptional additions for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
